This personalized custom mosaic is inspired by the famous ancient Roman Unswept Floor (Asarotos Oikos) mosaics, reimagined with bespoke elements to reflect your brand or space. Hand cut tile, this design echoes the historic trompe-l’oeil banquet floor mosaics first created in the 2nd century BCE and later used in Roman dining rooms to celebrate food culture, abundance, and craftsmanship. Perfect for restaurants, wine bars, kitchens, and luxury interiors. Custom sizing, imagery, and color palettes available.
The original “Unswept Floor” mosaic style depicted the scattered remains of a banquet — fruit peels, seafood shells, bones, and herbs — rendered so realistically they appeared accidentally dropped on the floor. This illusionistic mosaic tradition began with the Greek artist Sosus of Pergamon and became popular in Roman villas, where it symbolized hospitality, luxury, and artistic mastery.
Our custom interpretation brings that historic storytelling into modern spaces. Each mosaic is individually designed and hand cut using traditional techniques, allowing you to personalize ingredients, objects, or symbolic elements meaningful to your restaurant, brand, or home.
The mosaic is on mesh for installation and packed in a custom wood box for safe travel with extra tile pieces in case needed during installation. Once grouted the hand cut mosaic is like a tile wall or floor and can be cleaned and maintained as such.
It takes roughly six to eight weeks for the mosaic to reach you depending on the size of the mosaic from when you order. All my mosaics are cut by hand.
Mosaics can be custom made for size and color and can also have any writing or number you choose. I can also create any logo , pattern or artwork with mosaic.
I can create any design and any size of mosaic. For large mosaics even full floors, they can be sectioned and packaged and shipped in sections. These can be put back together and grouted over.
